About This Place

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Berkeley, Abe's Café stands out as a beloved local gem offering an exceptional café experience infused with authentic Mexican flavors and California freshness. This cozy spot at 1842 Euclid Ave is much more than a typical café—it’s a culinary refuge that has been brightening the days of students and residents alike with its thoughtfully crafted menu and warm, welcoming atmosphere.

The cuisine at Abe’s Café is a delightful marriage of bold Mexican inspirations and fresh, wholesome ingredients that come together in every dish. Among their standout menu highlights, the Breakfast Burrito commands a loyal following, packed with layers of flavor and generous portions that fuel your day. Equally irresistible are the Prosciutto & Avocado Toast and the Salmon & Avocado Toast—open-faced on hearty whole wheat bread, these creations boast creamy avocado, smoky salmon, fresh arugula, and the perfect fried egg to elevate each bite. Not to be missed are the savory Empanadas and vibrant Tilapia Ceviche Tostadas, which add refreshing and zesty notes to the lineup.

The café also caters beautifully to salad lovers with options like the Smoked Salmon Salad, featuring a delicate balance between fresh greens, succulent smoked salmon, and a balsamic vinaigrette that perfectly complements the tangy capers and creamy goat cheese crostini. The Cobb Salad and Chicken Caesar Salad are equally satisfying, offering fresh, crisp ingredients for a wholesome, nourishing meal.

For those craving hearty sandwiches, Abe’s Café impresses with choices such as the Carnitas Sandwich, bursting with tender pork, pickled jalapeños, and queso fresco, or the Steak Sandwich, which offers a smoky kick from grilled onions and chipotle aioli. The Chicken & Avocado Sandwich melds juicy chicken breast with creamy avocado and fresh mozzarella, creating a balanced and flavorful bite every time.

Specialty plates like the Chicken Mole Quesadilla and Veggie Quesadilla showcase Abe’s flair for vibrant, deeply satisfying Mexican-inspired dishes, blending textures and spices masterfully. This ability to unite authentic flavors with fresh, high-quality ingredients is precisely what keeps patrons coming back.

While the indoor space is modest, a welcoming handful of tables offer a cozy environment, while sidewalk seating provides a charming option for those who prefer to soak in Berkeley’s lively street vibes. The atmosphere is informal yet inviting—perfect for a quick bite or a leisurely brunch. The café's location near campus makes it especially popular among students, who often praise the friendly service and efficient pace alongside consistently fresh and generously sized meals.

Such authenticity and care have not gone unnoticed. Just an absolutely awesome restaurant with amazing, high quality food and actually gives you enough portion size. Kinda cliche but Abe’s Cafe has literally brightened my time at Berkeley lol especially these past semesters where it has gotten pretty tough and miserable. Thank you Abe’s Cafe for always making my day better every time I go!

Healthy fresh food served efficiently. Convenient location near campus. All day breakfast. Has small, often crowded sidewalk seating in addition to a few indoor tables.

I have been getting lunch from this place for about 2-3 years and I'm ashamed I didn't write a review sooner. There's a reason why this place is so highly rated. The food is delicious and the people who work there are amazing. Don't sleep on this place if you live in or close to Berkeley. My personal favorite is the special breakfast burrito (see photo) but everything on the menu is great.

Fresh bagel! They don’t use any artificial seasoning so the taste is clean and delicious Their indoor space is not spacious, and only a few seats are available, but they do have many outdoor seats available! # Hummus & Avocado Jalapeños Bagel

This place is amazing. You and my fiancé are both legally blind. And I’ve lived here in Berkeley for over five years now today, while trying to figure out what we wanted for breakfast we saw on Google that there was a place just across campus and decided to check it out man. Were we surprised when we walked in to this wonderful Café, this very friendly gentlemen, behind the counter, greed us and let us know where we could sit. He then proceeded to tell us what was on the menu for drinks and then took our order for our breakfast. I had a macho with vanilla syrup, and my fiancé had a. mocha latte within proceed to order these very wonderful croissant sandwiches with Aïoli when I tell you that this place was wonderful. I’m not joking. The service was top notch. Atmosphere was fun, friendly and inviting and the food and drink. I can’t say enough good things. We will definitely be going back and I suggest if you’re looking at this place, definitely give it a shot. It’s well worth it.
